Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK)

Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) is part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The BDUK is delivering superfast broadband and local full fibre networks to the nation.

To provide the fastest and most reliable broadband available the Government has invested £200m to fund locally-led projects across the UK to leverage local and commercial investment to deliver more fibre connections helping to:-

  • Provide superfast broadband coverage to 95% of the UK by December 2017
  • Provide access to basic broadband (2Mbps)
  • Stimulate private investment in full fibre connections by 2021
  • Superfast Broadband Programme
  • Aim to provide superfast broadband (speeds of 24Mbps or more) for at least 95% of UK premises and universal access to basic broadband (speeds of at least 2Mbps)

Benefits of Broadband

By improving broadband connectivity will in turn help to improve engagement and cope with the long-term demand for the internet.   Faster broadband will help to improve user usage and functionality for businesses, schools and homes for example uploading files quicker, using social media, stream movies, play games uninterrupted, keeping in touch with family via Skype or business conference calls through to quicker and improved  online shopping experiences.

Broadband Cabinets

As broadband / fibre optic cable continues to play a major role in the expansion of communications network capacity and the governments’ investment delivering superfast broadband. Rainford has designed and manufactured a range of outdoor fibre optic cabinets which are the perfect solution for broadband deployment.  The broadband cabinets provides network installers, ISPs, OEMs and rural broadband communities’ innovative cable housing solutions, which helps to deliver an end-to-end full fibre optic connection for both business and home users.

Fibre Cabinet Connections

There are generally two different types of fibre optic broadband connections referred to as FTTC (Fibre-to-the-Cabinet) and FTTH (Fibre-to-the-Home).  Fibre optic cables are used to help increase the speed of broadband connections for both home users and business users.

FTTC (Fibre-to-the-Cabinet)

FTTC (Fibre-to-the-Cabinet) is also known as Fibre-to-the-Kerb, involves running a fibre optic cable from a telephone exchange to an outdoor fibre cabinet which is then connected to a standard phone line to provide broadband to home or business users.

FTTH / FTTP (Fibre-to-the-Home)

FTTH (Fibre-to-the-Home) is also known as FTTP (Fibre-to-the-Premises), involves running a fibre optic cable the full distance from a telephone exchange right to the home or premises delivering an end-to-end full fibre optic connection.

Rainford FTTC, FTTH / FTTP outdoor cabinets provide ingress protection and are available in single bay, double bay or triple bay with end pods for housing power distribution equipment with optional door alarm kits for additional security.  The outdoor cabinets are supported by a robust thermal management system; further benefits include significant energy conservation with intelligent speed control in the cooling system providing extended life of the components and minimized environmental impact.

Rural Broadband Deployment

Rainford Solutions has supplied Broadband 4 Rural North (B4RN) with custom designed FTTH (Fibre-to-the-Home) outdoor cabinets for their super-fast broadband.  Please watch this short video below which features the B4RN Team and Rainford FTTH outdoor cabinets in action!

Rural Broadband Deployment

This short video below features the B4RN Team showing our FTTH cabinets in action! Rainford Solutions has supplied Broadband 4 Rural North (B4RN) with custom designed Fibre To The Home (FTTH) enclosures for their super fast broadband.

B4RN has been set up as a not-for profit organisation in order to tackle the problem of digital divide between remote and rural communities.  Local residents of East Lancashire decided to provide their community with 1000Mps fibe-optic broadband network, one of the fastest in the world.

The organisation needed an enclosure to hold complex fibre solutions supported by a robust thermal management system to provide heating and cooling suitable for the equipment.
